DENNIS R. TICHENOR
PAST INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR
Dennis R. Tichenor, of Portland, Oregon, USA, was elected to serve a two-year term as a
director of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the association's 75th International
Convention, held in Hong Kong, June 23-26, 1992.
Past Director Tichenor is the owner of a travel corporation and a retired educator.
A member of the Milwaukie Lions Club since 1967, Past Director Tichenor has held many
positions within the association, including club president, district governor, zone chairperson
and multiple district chairperson for membership, extension and youth exchange. He was
designated a top ten youth exchange person and developed the first ever exchange between
New Zealand and the USA. He also has served as a presenter at several international
conventions, area forums and Lions Leadership Institutes.
In the past, Past Director Tichenor served as a chairperson for the Oregon Lions Sight and
Hearing Foundation, the Lions Eye Bank and the Council of Governors. He was a board
appointee to the executive committee under President James Coffey and a liaison from the
international board of directors to the USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum. He served as
chairman of the District Governor-elect Schools in Seoul, Republic of Korea in 1995; in San
Diego, California in 1999; and in Osaka, Japan in 2002. He also served as vice chairperson for
three District Governor-elect Schools and was chosen to lead President Kay Fukushima’s
IMPACT program worldwide, which he continued to lead for President Dr. Tae-Sup “TS” Lee.
Past Director Tichenor was a member of the first Lions Leadership Institute, for which he helped
develop the program and curriculum.
For his contributions to the association, Past Director Tichenor has received numerous awards,
including the 100% District Governor Award, a Master Key Award, an International President's
Leadership Award, eight International President's Awards and the Ambassador of Good Will
Award, the highest honor the association grants to its members. He is also a Progressive
Melvin Jones Fellow.
Past Director Tichenor and his wife, Judi, have two daughters and three grandchildren.
