| Club projects: Highway Cleanup 4 times per year. Our club was the first entity to participate in the "adopt a highway program" in the state of Wyoming. Early Childhood Vision Screening-- A joint project with the Lions of SE Wyoming (Cheyenne Frontier and Noon Lions, Laramie and Laramie Plains Lions and the Pine Bluffs Lions. Preschool children are screened using a special device using special device called a PediaVision. This device can screen for a variety of early childhood vision problems such as amblyopia. If the device detects a potential problem, a referral is made to have the child taken to an eye care professional. This important project helps identify problems that may be corrected in early childhood that, if undetected until later are incurable. Our new equipment for vision screening is capable of doing the screening on the spot, and printing appropriate letters to parents. This saves time getting the referral in the hands of the parent and the time of the eye care professional it takes to review the picture. Super Day in Lions Park -- Each year on the last Saturday in June, the Cheyenne Parks and Recreation Department sponsors this event. Vendors, the military, community service organizations, bands, physical fitness groups and many others set up displays and booths for the enjoyment of the public. The Cheyenne Sunrise Lions run our miniature street train and provide free rides to SD participants. This year (2011) over 1400 received a free ride on the train. Ride for Sight -- The 18th annual Ride for Sight is our major fund raiser for the year. This is also a community service, providing a fun family event that encourages physical fitness. The second Sunday in August (August 8, 2010) is the date for our 100 mile supported bike ride. Our major co-sponsor is The Cheyenne Eye Clinic. We provide four rest stops for a fifty mile (riders go out and back for 100 miles) route through the prairie of southeast Wyoming. As many as 175 riders from all over the state and the region participate in this event. Funds from riders and other sponsors provide support for a variety of programs: Early Childhood Vision Screening Project Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Bank Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute Foundation Allen H. Stewart Lions Camp Lions International Foundation Leader Dog Lions of Wyoming Foundation Assistance for local citizens needing help with treatment for hearing and vision disabilities. |
